Manipur bags overall title of Sub – Junior National Judo Championships 2017

Manipur judo team bagged overall champion title of the Sub – Junior National Judo Championships 2017-18 ( Boys & Girls ) held from 30th September to 3rd October 2017 at Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Indoor Stadium, Warangal, Telangana. The young judokas of Manipur team won championship titles both in boys and girls sections.

In the championship, Manipur won 11 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals totalling 17 medals. Manipur boys team bagged 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals for a total of 8 medals while girls claimed 6 gold and 3 bronze medals for a total of 9 medals.

In boys section, Y Umakanta ( above 35kg) , L Babumacha Meitei (below 45kg), M Rajendro Singh (above 45kg), Th Nanaoba Meietei (below 50kg), Max Laishram (above 55kg) won gold medals, L Babumacha Meitei (below 45kg) won silver medal, S Maimu Meitei (below50kg) and H Birkamal (above 55kg) won bronze medals.

In girls section, N Roshibina Chanu (above 20kg), Th Maloti Devi (below 30kg), Linthoi Chanambam (above 30kg), H Matouleibi (above 44kg), Khoirom Aruna (below 48kg), L Roshni Devi (above 48kg) won gold medals, M Roshibina Devi (below 40kg), L Gururia (above 40kg) and N Abesana (below 44kg) won bronze medals.

In the championship, , L Babumacha Meitei who contested in boy’s below 45kg won the “Best Judoka” award.

Manipur team was led by S Ranbir Singh (Girls team Manager), O Rashesori Chanu (Girls team Coach), A Surjit Meitei (Boys team Manager) and Ch Tomba Singh (Boys team coach).
