Maisnam Meiraba Luwang wins national badminton U-15 boys singles and doubles titles; Manipur U-13 boys team wins silver medal

Young shuttler Maisnam Meiraba Luwang created a history for Manipur when he won gold medal in boys’ singles event at the 29th Sub Junior (U-13 & U-15, Boys & Girls) National Badminton Championship 2015 which was held under the aegis of BAI from 16th to 19th November 2015 at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The sensational young boy Meiraba of Manipur defeated top seed of India, Akash Yadav from Delhi by 27:25 and 21:17 points in the final to clinch the U-15 boys’ singles title. Earlier, he beat Pranay R of Andhra Pradesh in the semi final by 21:19 and 21:17 points.

Meiraba also became the first shuttler from Manipur to win a national badminton doubles title when he along with Akash Thakur of Bihar beat Prasanth K and Tharun M of Andhra Pradesh by 21:13 and 21:15 points. In semi final, they defeated Siddhartha Mishra and Siddhant Salar of Uttar Pradesh by 27:25 and 21:12 points.

In under 13 boys’ doubles event, Manipur boys team of Bidyasagar Salam and Punshiba Yengkhom won silver medal. The duo defeated Pranav Rao Gandham and Sai Vishnu Pullela of Telangana by 23:21 and 21:16 points in the semi final before losing to Jayant Rana of Haryana and Vikas Yadav of Delhi by 25:27 and 21:23 points in the final.
