Leitanthem Dinesh opens gold account for India, Laitonjam Rishikanta becomes world champion

India has started doing well in the global competition of the bodybuilding on the first day itself. Indians have made themselves proud by becoming world champions in the 9th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships 2017 Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and won several medals. Two bodybuilders have won gold medals on the opening day of the ongoing championships.

On the opening day of the ongoing 9th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships 2017 in Mongolia, Leitanthem Dinesh opened the goal account for India by winning a gold medal in junior men’s below 75kg category. The young bodybuilder won silver medal in the recently concluded 51st Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship 2017, Korea.

Another Indian to become world champion was the Asian champion Laitonjam Rishikanta who won gold medal in junior men’s above 70kg. The bodybuilder of KBB Gym based in Imphal could be seen crying after winning the title.



In women’s sections, former World and Asian Bodybuilding Championships medalists Thingbaijam Sarita and Mamota Yumnam won silver and bronze medals respectively. Thingbaijam Sarita who won bronze medal in the 51st Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship 2017, Korea could better her performance by winning a silver medal in women’s below 55kg while Mamota Yumnam won bronze medal in the championships

Kongbrailatpam Rebita and Chandam Indira won 4th and 5th places in women’s above 55kg and master men’s above 60kg categories respectively.

The bodybuilders have participated in the championships facing financial burdens. Now, the winning performances have paid their hard works and difficulties.

It may be mentioned that eight Manipuri bodybuilders were selected to represent India in the championships.
