Kozum Taba of Arunachal Pradesh wins gold medals in Junior and Senior Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2016

Current Junior Commonwealth Champion of Arunachal Pradesh (North East), Mr. Kojum Taba made India proud in Penang, Malaysia, by clinching Senior Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2016 titles. He not only became Senior Commonwealth Champion but also without any difficulty has defended the Junior Commonwealth Championship title by winning another gold medal for second consecutive occasion.

In 85 kg weight category, Kojum emerged as strongest man among all the athletes of the Commonwealth countries by excelling all the attempts with superb finishing of 146 and 184 kg respectively in snatch and clean & jerk section breaking his own records set during selection trail conducted by Indian Weightlifting Federation few weeks ago at NIS Patiala, Punjab, (India). He lifted Snatch 146kg, Clean & Jerk 184kg and total of 330kg. Patterson Richard John Edward of New Zealand and Etoundi Francois of Australia won silver and bronze medals respectively by lifting total of 318kg and 302kg.

In the junior category also, Kozum lifted 146kg in snatch and 184kg in clean and jerk for a total of 330kg to win the coveted gold medal. Arief Azwan Bin Zulkefli of host Malaysia and Opeloge Don of Samoa won silver and bronze medals respectively.

Besides the achievement, he was the Youth, Junior, Senior National Champion and defending Junior Commonwealth Weightlifting Champion.
