Konsam Ormila of India wins gold medal in Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2017

In a boost to the Indian weightlifting team, young lifter Konsam Ormila has won a gold medal in the ongoing 19th Asian Youth (Boys & Girls) Weightlifting Championships 2017, Kathmandu in Nepal.

Daughter of K Harichandra and K Bemi from Langathel Laikom Market of Thoubal district Manipur lifted 56kg in snatch and 70kg in clean & jerk for a total effort of 126kg in the 44kg weight category to grab the gold medal for the country in the Asian meet which will continue till 30th July 2017.

Ormila had earlier won gold medals in 10th National Youth (Sub-Junior Boys and Girls) Weightlifting Championship 2015, North East Games 2016. She represented India at the 2017 IWF Youth World Championships Bangkok, Thailand.

Mention also may be made that five young Manipuri weightlifters were selected by the Indian Weightlifting Federation to represent India in this 19th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship. The lifters were: Konsam Ormila (44kg), Meitram Purnima Chanu (53kg), P Umeshwori (63kg), Seram Nirupama (69kg) and Arambam Anju (75kg).

The lifters will also represent India in Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships that will be held in Gold Coast City, Australia from September 3 to 9, 2017 .
