Jimjang Deru of Arunachal Pradesh became new senior national champion by winning gold medal with the creation of a new national record in clean & jerk event in men’s 62kg category with a lift of 153kg beating the record set by Rustam Sarang of Chhattisgarh. Rustam Sarang broke Yukar Sibi’s record of 151kg by lifting 152kg in clean and jerk.

Jimjang Deru won the medal by lifting 113kg in snatch, 153kg in clean and jerk for a total of 266kg. His nearest rival Anthony Raj of Railways lifted 114kg in snatch and 147kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 261kg to win the silver medal. V Srinivasa Rao got the bronze medal.

Prior to this achievement, Deru has won gold medals in Commonwealth Youth Games, Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships besides creating Youth Commonwealth and Youth and Junior National records. All his records, created earlier has not yet been broken by any competitors.
