With fine display of performances by the India bodybuilders, Indian team won runners up in 9th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships 2017 held at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. India could display its excellent performance by winning 15 medals in the global bodybuilding championships.
India opened its gold account in bodybuilding when Leitanthem Dinesh won a gold medal in junior men’s below 75kg category. India won another its second gold medal in junior men’s above 75kg category when Asian Bodybuilding champion Laitonjam Rishikanta claimed another gold medal.

India had double happiness as bodybuilders Jayaprakash and Nongmaithem Sarbo won gold and silver medals in senior men’s 75kg category.
India had the biggest moment of happiness when five times world champion Arambam Boby defended his title and won his sixth world championships titles in senior men’s 80kg category. He has become the first Indian bodybuilder to win the title for six times.
India could further add another gold medal in men’s competition as Mahendra Chavan became a world champion.

In the championships, India won 4 silver and 6 bronze medals besides several positions. Thingbaijam Sarita, Mittal Singh, Rohan Dhuri and Vinay Pande won silver medals in women’s and men’s competitions. Mamota Yumnam, G Srinivas, Nongmaithem Sarbo, Ram Niwas, Rohit Shetty and Rehman Hizbur were the bronze medalists.

Shahid Afridi, Indranil Maity, Kongbrailatpam Rebita, S Prasath and Priyam won 4th positions while Kanchi Advani, Paklu Taipodia, Chandam Indira, Hariram, Monica Gupta, Savio Chavan and Vivek Peter won 5th positions respectively.
