Taekwondo has been one of the sports disciplines which has given many medals to Manipur. But the taekwondo team of 5th National Games was unique. The Manipur team of that edition added 19 medals to Manipur’s medal tally out of which 13 were gold medals, 4 were silver medals and 2 were bronze medals.

Players of that time trained for more than 2 years, everyday. They were preparing hard exclusively for the national games which was held in Imphal. Today most of those medal winners have gone to different states. Initially the players were tired of rigorous and long time training. Under the guidance of coaches Lamabam Tutu and Oinam Indramani, the players were trained everyday for more than 2 years. When players won their medals, they realised that their rigorous training really paid off.
