Eight Manipuri bodybuilders are representing India in World Bodybuilding Championships 2017, Arambam Boby eyes his 6th world title

Manipuri bodybuilders who have been performing so well will again give their performances at the world championships now, this time in Mongolia. Manipuri bodybuilders who are working in different departments and states have joined Indian team for the competition. Altogether 8 Manipuri bodybuilders will be contesting in different weight categories of both men and women sections.

Among the 8 bodybuilders, 5 were selected from Manipur while 3 were working in different departments and sates. Out of the 8 bodybuilders, Arambam Boby and Laitonjam Rishikanta won gold medals in the recently concluded 51st Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship 2017 while Leitanthem Dinesh and Thingbaijam Sarita won silver and bronze medals respectively in their respective categories. Mamota Yumnam too won a silver medal in the Asian championships.

In this 9th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships 2017 Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Mr India 2017 Nongmaithem Sarbo Singh of Raiways will compete in men’s 75kg category. Delhi based Mamota Yumnam will strive for her second medal in the championships after her bronze medal winning performance in 7th WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2015. Arambam Boby also of the Railways will be eyeing his 6th world championship title after winning the titles in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016. He will be the first Indian bodybuilder to make double hat-trick if he wins gold medal in this edition. He will also be the first Indian to bag 6th world title if he wins the title in men’s 80kg category.

The eight Manipuri bodybuilders who will contest in the WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2017, Ulaanbaatar , Mongolia are:

6. Thingbaijam Sarita,

The bodybuilders had to participate in the championships with great financial difficulties. Bodybuilders had to seek financial help from different sources. Several bodybuilding fans and sports lovers circulated messages in aid of the bodybuilders.
