Eastern Sporting Union (ESU) of Manipur whips Rising Student’s Club 3-0, emerges the champion of the 1st Indian Women’s League 2017:

Manipur’s ESU scripted history as it became the first women’s football club to be crowned champion of the inaugural Indian Women’s League. The ESU which is one of the clubs which transformed Manipur sports has now become a history maker. The club which has been a playing a major role in the sports movement in Manipur were studded with star players who are in the Indian national team.

Yumnam Kamala who scored most goals in the tournament opened the goal account for the champion team when she netted a goal in 32nd minute. Irom Prameshori who is also a key member of the Indian team added another goal in the 57th minute to take the lead 2-0. Kamala, on the other hand, who has made two hat-tricks in the tournament was in no mood to stop her onslaught. She took to further lead when she scored her second goal of the match in 66th minute and made an unreachable score of 3-0 for the Odisha team. The ESU’s win also proved to be a revenge of its lost to RSC in the league match earlier. With this win, the ESU has become the first ever club to win the first Indian Women’s League.

Eastern Sporting Union were awarded 10lakhs for being Champions while Rising Student’s Club were given 5lakhs for finishing runners-up. Jabamani Tudu bagged the ‘Emerging Player Award’ of Rs. 75000,  Umapati Devi was awarded the ‘Most Valuable Player Award’ with Rs. 1.25lakh. Elangbam Panthoi Chanu of ESU was ajudged ‘Best Goalkeeper’ and rewarded Rs Rs. 1lakh. Yumnam Kamala was awarded for being ‘Top Scorer’ with Rs. 1lakh. She scored 11 goals in the tournament.
