Dr. Kangabam Romeo Meetei honoured on National Sports Day in Arunachal Pradesh

Dr. Kangabam Romeo Meetei who has been promoting adventure sports in the North East region was honoured on the occasion of National Sports Day celebration in Arunachal Pradesh. Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh who attended the function as Chief Guest along with Deputy CM and BJP President applauded Manipuris in his speech for promoting sports in Arunachal Pradesh. He praised that without Manipuri players in Indian team, India’s sports is not completed.

In the function of the National Sports Day held at Itanagar, the Govt. oof Arunachal Pradesh felicitated  mountaineers for the first time in the meritorious cash award category. BJP State President Mr. Tapir Gao presented a cash award of Rs. 2 lakhs along with track suit to Dr. Romeo. He became the first official from Manipur to receive the incentive award. Mr. Romeo had been conferred Excellence Award, the Highest State Award from Arunachal Pradesh Govt  twice earlier for promoting adventure sports in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and other North Eastern states.

It may be mentioned that Mr Romeo is the founder of adventure sports movement in Arunachal Pradesh and he played vital role in producing world class mountaineers from the state. Under him, two women namely Mrs. Anshu Jamsenpa & Miss Tine Mena scaled Mount Everest and created many records which brought laurel to the state as well as to the country in 2011. He is now serving as In-charge Adventure Cell, Dept of Youth Affairs, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh.
