Young players of Manipur taekwondo team made the state proud when they outshined other states to become overall champion of the 3rd National Cadet Kyorugi & Poomsae Taekwondo Championship 2017. The state which has excelled in all forms of martial arts proved its excellence in taekwondo which is one of the favourite combat sports of people of the region.

There were 12 weight categories in the championship. More than 600 young players of 12 to 14 years of age from 24 states participated in the event along with 50 technical officials. Many modern equipments including electronic device in body guard were also used in this championship.
The three days event was organised by Taekwondo Odisha under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India was inaugurated by Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera at East Coast Railway Indoor Stadium.

In this championship, Manipur boys won 3 gold medals while girls won 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals respectively. The boys stood 1st place as girls won 2nd place and got overall championship title. Madhya Pradesh and Bihar won overall first runner up and second runner up places respectively. The Manipur team was led by RK Haripyari Devi as the boys’ coach and S Anita Chanu as the girls’ coach respectively.
It may be mentioned that Manipur also won overall champion of the 2nd National Cadet Kyorugi & Poomsae Taekwondo Championship for Boys and Girls 2015 held at Hyderabad in Telanga.
