World Police and Fire Games 2017 gold medallist boxer Hemam Chaoba received a rousing welcome as she arrived at Imphal on Thursday. Daughter of Hemam Bichandra and Hemam Bina from Moirang Hemam Leikai, Chaoba was given warm welcome by her localities at Moirang Hemam Leikai Community Hall . The reception was organised by Hemam Leikai Development Association in recognition to her achievement.

It may be mentioned that Chaoba who is the employee of the BSF beat her opponent from Mexico to win gold medal for India in World Police and Fire Games 2017, USA. It is her first gold medal at international level too. At national level, she had earlier won silver medal in National Games 2013, Kerala.

Besides her, Manipuri athletes representing India won 26 medals – 15 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals which surpassed previous edition’s medal haul of 6 medals – 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.
